{"id":4639,"date":"2023-06-14T12:47:00","date_gmt":"2023-06-14T12:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=4639"},"modified":"2023-11-05T12:54:28","modified_gmt":"2023-11-05T12:54:28","slug":"pearson-breaks-through-for-first-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/sport\/pearson-breaks-through-for-first-title\/","title":{"rendered":"Pearson breaks through for first title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Handicap Mixed Open Singles Championship decided for indoor bowlers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association held its third championship being the Commercial Club Handicap Mixed Open Singles Championship earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>The Commercial Club Handicap Mixed Open Singles Championship was contested with the number of 54 entries, with many talented bowlers fighting for the championship title.<\/p>\n<p>The first semi final saw Fiona Pearson (-3) from Post-Tel come up against Saint\u2019s Gary Bowering (-1), with Fiona winning 7 shots to 6.<\/p>\n<p>The second semi final saw last year\u2019s champion Zac Pearson (-3) from Post-Tel be beaten by Post\u0002Tel\u2019s Stephen Von Duve (-3) who won by playing an extra end by 8 shots to 7.<\/p>\n<p>The final then saw the two Post-Tel team mates of Fiona (-3) and Stephen (-3) meet in the final and with both of them on high handicaps the game was going to be close. Stephen was going for his second title in this event with the last being in 2004 and Fiona for her first handicap singles championship. <\/p>\n<p>Both bowlers were consistently drawing shots and the winner was going to be decided on the last end. The pair went into the last end with Stephen having to score three shots on the last end to win.<\/p>\n<p>Fiona fortunately scored one shot giving Fiona victory by the margin of three shots, to become the 2023 Commercial Club Handicap Mixed Open Singles Champion by winning 6 shots to 3. <\/p>\n<p>The Consolation semi-finals had Simon Davis from Glenburnie defeat Moorak Reds Gary Walters 7 shots to 5 and Arthur Dunn from Glenburnie defeated Ken Stephens from Moorak red 9 shots to 3.<\/p>\n<p>The Consolation final was taken out by Simon Davis who defeated Arthur Dunn 12 shots to 1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>COMMERCIAL CLUB HANDICAP MIXED OPEN SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP FINALIST:<\/strong> Arthur Dunn, Simon Davis, Fiona Pearson &#038; Stephen Von Duve<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Handicap Mixed Open Singles Championship decided for indoor bowlers The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association held its third championship being the Commercial Club Handicap Mixed Open Singles Championship earlier this month.
