{"id":4799,"date":"2023-09-27T17:13:26","date_gmt":"2023-09-27T17:13:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=4799"},"modified":"2023-11-09T10:34:57","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T10:34:57","slug":"its-all-about-the-future-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/living\/its-all-about-the-future-2\/","title":{"rendered":"It\u2019s all about the future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Two scholarships on offer from Community Bank Mount Gambier<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mt Gambier &#038; district students will again benefit from a scholarship program, which will supplement their study costs in their first year of higher education.<\/p>\n<p>Community Bank Mt Gambier &#038; District Chair Helen Strickland said the Community Bank Mt Gambier &#038; District Scholarship Program, which opens on October 1, was launched because the Branch believed local students deserved every opportunity to achieve their dreams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn investment in education yields great long-term dividends and by helping young people gain access to tertiary education, the returns to the student, their families and the local community are significant,\u201d Mrs Strickland said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year we are offering two scholarships \u2013 a school leavers scholarship and an open scholarship, both for students undertaking their first year of higher education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur young people are our future, and we believe they deserve the best support possible to help forge their careers and achieve their dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Successful Community Bank Mt Gambier &#038; District Scholarship applicants will receive funding for one year.<\/p>\n<p>Applications are invited from eligible students, starting their studies in 2024, from October 1, this year. Applications close on January 31 next year and will be assessed in early February.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the Community Bank Mt Gambier &#038; District Scholarship supported local student Jessica Tresidder with her double degree of Bachelor of Cognitive Neuropsychology and Business at the University of South Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Jess (pictured left with branch manager Emma Horrigan) said the scholarship gave her the necessary funds to live and study in Adelaide, relieving the financial pressure of attending university.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am grateful to Community Bank Mt Gambier &#038; District for helping me to attend university and to pursue my ambitions,\u201d Jess said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201c&#8230; our young people are our future, and we believe they deserve the best support possible to help forge their careers and achieve their dreams..\u201d Helen Strickland (Community Bank Mt Gambier &#038; District Chair)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Community Bank Mt Gambier &#038; District Scholarship is part of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Scholarship Program, which partners with Community Bank branches, Rural Bank and The University of Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201c&#8230; the returns to the student, their families and the local community are significant&#8230;\u201d Helen Strickland (Community Bank Mt Gambier &#038; District Chair)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The program has now supported more than 1336 students, with more than $11 million in funding since its inception in 2007.
