Remembrance Day this Saturday will see the unveiling of a passion project from a group of Dartmoor quilters.<\/p>\n
The group committed their skills to a non-profit registered charity Quilts of Valour when it was on the hunt for volunteers to create handmade quilts, which the charity., in turn, hands over to Veterans and Defence Personnel, as well as immediate family of veterans and Defence Personnel who have died, in recognition of their service, sacrifice and valour for their country.<\/p>\n
The call to arms came on Anzac Day this year and the Dartmoor District Museum was soon turned into a sewing and chat room, as several interested crafties under the leadership of Noelle \u2018Poodge\u2019 Hendriks, produced amazing results utilising the donated time and money. Sixteen quilts have been completed, including one that was fabric-painted by the Dartmoor Primary School students.<\/p>\n
The Australian Chapter of Quilts of Valour is 11 years old and was set up following the Black Hawk helicopter disaster in June 2010. Hundreds of generous quiltmakers across the country have contributed more than three thousand quilts donated to veterans affected by their service to date.<\/p>\n
The Dartmoor-created quilts will be on public display from 10am at the Dartmoor Museum\u2019s Produce and Market Day. There will be a sausage sizzle to help raise funds for the group\u2019s next project – quilts for \u2018Safe Houses\u2019. The Quilts for Valour will remain on display until Monday, November 13, and again from Friday, November 17 to Monday, November 20, before being handed over to the charity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
