{"id":5350,"date":"2023-04-26T10:21:17","date_gmt":"2023-04-26T10:21:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=5350"},"modified":"2023-11-06T10:22:19","modified_gmt":"2023-11-06T10:22:19","slug":"cancer-support-in-focus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/living\/cancer-support-in-focus\/","title":{"rendered":"Cancer support in focus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Community forum headlined by six local experts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dealing with cancer \u2013 as a patient or the family or friend of a patient \u2013 is a tough time and a time when the right support can make all the difference.<\/p>\n<p>It is why the Mount Gambier Cancer Support Group has put together a Cancer Information Forum on Wednesday, May 3, to get a panel of experts and service providers in one room so the community can gather as much information as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Mount Gambier Cancer Support Group\u2019s Lorraine Musgrave said the group had contemplating putting together this type of event and was looking forward to see how it meets the needs of the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have clients who say we didn\u2019t know a support group existed, we don\u2019t know where the PATS office is, we don\u2019t know where to go to get the information we need, where do we go, who do we contact?\u201d she said. \u201cSo we have been able to get together around half a dozen locally based experts to speak at the forum and a variety of cancer service providers have provided information that will be on display, including leaflets and brochures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse Tracy Bryant (pictured); McGrath Breast Care Nurse Dana Mulraney; Oncology Nurse Practitioner Julie Campbell and In Home Hospice Care\u2019s Sandi Elliott will be joined by Dr Mike Bruorton tackling the topic of skin cancer and Travis Fatchen, who can cover the intricacies of PATS.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be emceed by Kevin Douglas and runs from 2pm to 6pm at the Mount Gambier RSL &amp; District Bowling Club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just want to give people then opportunity to get their questions answered and we are lucky we have been able to get such good quality speakers in the room at the same time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Refreshments will be available and it is a gold coin donation for entry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PROGRAM<\/strong><br \/>\n2pm \u2013 Opening Speaker \u2013 Travis Fatchen<br \/>\n2.30pm &#8211; Dana Mulraney \u2013 McGrath Breast Care Nurse<br \/>\n3pm \u2013 Tracy Bryant \u2013 Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse<br \/>\n3.30pm \u2013 Sandi Elliott \u2013 IN Home Hospice Car<br \/>\n4pm \u2013 TBA<br \/>\n4.30pm \u2013 Julie Campbell \u2013 Oncology Nurse Practitioner<br \/>\n5pm \u2013 Dr Mike Bruorton \u2013 Skin Cancer<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Community forum headlined by six local experts Dealing with cancer \u2013 as a patient or the family or friend of a patient \u2013 is a tough time and a time when the right support can make all the difference.
