Mount Gambier Library will offer private \u2018Sensitive Santa\u2019 sessions for families on Thursday, December 14, from 3pm until 6pm.<\/p>\n
Children\u2019s & Youth Services library assistant Bek Coates said library staff understood that going to busy spaces to visit Santa can be tricky for some families.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are offering our inclusive \u2018Sensitive Santa\u2019 sessions where you can book in for a 15-minute one-on-one Santa visit, in a dedicated festive room minus the noise, flashing lights and lots of people,\u201d Mrs Coates said.<\/p>\n
Upon booking, parents or caregivers will complete a small questionnaire to assist with their child\u2019s unique experience.<\/p>\n
Santa will already know the child\u2019s name, be aware of any challenges, and if the situation suits, a photo will be taken and given in both print and digital form to cherish.<\/p>\n
Each child will walk away with a small gift from Santa and happy memories.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also welcome little families to book in together so that siblings don\u2019t miss out,\u201d Mrs Coates said.<\/p>\n
This initiative was piloted last year and due to the overwhelming success, Mount Gambier Library has increased the amount of session times available for families, with time slots available up until 6pm for those wanting to attend outside school hours.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing involved in Sensitive Santa was one of the most rewarding experiences for me. The library was inundated with positive messages of thanks from parents who under usual circumstances, a visit to Santa is not possible,\u201d Mrs. Coates said.<\/p>\n
