{"id":8301,"date":"2024-01-12T04:58:44","date_gmt":"2024-01-11T17:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=8301"},"modified":"2024-01-11T22:03:27","modified_gmt":"2024-01-11T11:03:27","slug":"kite-festival-to-take-to-the-skies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/kite-festival-to-take-to-the-skies\/","title":{"rendered":"Kite festival to take to the skies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It will be the skies above rather than the water that will be the focus at Southend on January 24 when the Yacht Club Beach hosts the Adelaide Kite Flyers Association (AKFA) who will present a spectacular kite flying display at the Wattle Range Giant Kite Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by the Wattle Range Council, the family-friendly event is free to attend and open to kite flyers of all ages and experience levels.<\/p>\n<p>Sea themed kites of all shapes, sizes and designs will dot the horizon for a visual spectacle as the AKFA will showcase the sea kite designs, many standing more than 30 feet high.<\/p>\n<p>Wattle Range Council manager community development said kite flying was a fun activity for all ages and a great excuse to get outside and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to partner with AKFA to bring this event to our community and highlight the natural beauty of Southend Beach as the perfect backdrop for such an uplifting display,\u201d Ms Hill said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to AKFA\u2019s curated kite show, attendees are invited to bring their own kites to fly or build and decorate kites onsite at one of the festival\u2019s craft activities. Kite flying lessons and demonstrations will also be offered to help first timers discover the joy of kite flying.<\/p>\n<p>AKFA secretary Justine said the Wattle Range Giant Kite Festival was shaping up to be an unforgettable event and their ground display would have cars that people could stand in for photos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t wait to fill the skies with colour and see the smiles on people\u2019s faces as they stop to look up in wonder,\u201d Justine said.<\/p>\n<p>The Wattle Range Giant Kite Festival will take place at Yacht Club Beach, Leake Street Beach Access, Southend on Wednesday, January 24, from 10am to 2pm.
