Most people in Robe immediately think about the town\u2019s ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day poppy displays when they hear the name Kerrie Boyd.<\/p>\n
Her work on driving this project, among many other community involvements, is why Kerrie was recognised with the District Council of Robe\u2019s Mayoral Award on Australia Day.<\/p>\n
It is a project that was instigated by Kerrie back in 2014.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was an idea I found on Facebook, founded by two ladies in Melbourne, called 5000 Poppy,\u201d Kerrie said. \u201cAs a group in Robe we made poppies for this then decided to have our own display.\u201d<\/p>\n
Not surprisingly, given her passion for that project, she is also a board member of Robe 2 Recovery \u2013 a role she has relished since 2020.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe support veterans with a respite program here in Robe,\u201d Kerri said. \u201cIt is an amazing experience, meeting veterans and their family and knowing we are helping make a difference in their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kerrie has also been a volunteer at the Robe Library and Visitor Centre for on five years and is involved at the Robe Bowling Club.<\/p>\n
I love Robe and the Robe community so being involved come easy,\u201d Kerrie said. \u201cWhat I love about volunteering is helping others, promoting Robe, the smiles on people\u2019s face, meeting other people. Knowing you are making a difference to other lives.<\/p>\n
