{"id":851,"date":"2022-10-22T13:12:15","date_gmt":"2022-10-22T13:12:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=851"},"modified":"2023-11-09T10:34:29","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T10:34:29","slug":"playground-upgrades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/sport\/playground-upgrades\/","title":{"rendered":"Playground upgrades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>District Council of Grant seeking feedback<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Parents and children across the District Council of Grant are being encouraged to have their say on council\u2019s play spaces before vital equipment upgrades commence.<\/p>\n<p>Nine playgrounds throughout the district are set to receive upgrades, with funding approved through the Federal Government\u2019s Phase 3 Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program. CEO Darryl Whicker said recent audit results concluded that equipment required prompt attention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are being proactive to repair, maintain and\/or replace existing playground structures to ensure they are compliant with the Australian Standards,\u201d he said. \u201cTo ensure both safety and accessibility, these works are a priority for council and have been included in the 2022\/2023 major project works program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The playground locations include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Blackfellows Caves<\/li>\n<li>Carpenter Rocks<\/li>\n<li>Donovans<\/li>\n<li>Kongorong<\/li>\n<li>Mount Schank<\/li>\n<li>Nene Valley<\/li>\n<li>Port MacDonnell<\/li>\n<li>Tarpeena<\/li>\n<li>Yahl<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A staged community engagement approach is being undertaken to liaise with the community about equipment upgrades at each site.<\/p>\n<p>Among the first locations to receive upgrades will be the Carpenter Rocks playground, while the popular Port MacDonnell playground, adjacent to The Waterfront, will be reviewed in stage 2 with equipment envisaged for ages 6 and under.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Whicker encouraged parents to get involved in the feedback process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlaygrounds are essential early learning environments so genuine community engagement is key throughout this project,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are striving to offer many different feedback opportunities for the community over the coming months to achieve our target. I encourage all interested residents and visitors to make the most of this opportunity and submit your feedback for consideration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCouncil would also like to acknowledge the support of the Federal Government by providing crucial funding for this project which will also assist in achieving many other key projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Member for Barker Tony Pasin said he was pleased to see Federal Busy time for Mount Gambier Lions Lions Club of Mount Gambier meets new district governor &#038; hands out generous donation Coalition Funding contributing to better public spaces. \u201cThe Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program was designed to support local councils to deliver priority infrastructure projects to support jobs and local economies and help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic,\u201d Mr Pasin said. \u201cNot only will these playground upgrades support this outcome, but our local communities will benefit from the upgraded public spaces that will be designed and prioritised as the community sees fit through the council\u2019s consultation process. This is Federal Government funding invested in community, benefiting community directly where community sees fit.
