{"id":8998,"date":"2024-03-31T04:10:16","date_gmt":"2024-03-30T17:10:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=8998"},"modified":"2024-03-29T09:22:14","modified_gmt":"2024-03-28T22:22:14","slug":"bringing-a-jazz-icon-to-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/bringing-a-jazz-icon-to-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Bringing a jazz icon to life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fi &amp; Frenz are returning to Mount Gambier Fringe this year with a new show &#8211; Ms Sassy, A Tribute To The Divine One, Sarah Vaughan.<\/p>\n<p>The show has already received rave reviews at the Adelaide Fringe with its two sets, showcasing Sarah\u2019s jazz music from the 1940s through to the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Vaughan was one of the great Jazz vocalists of the 20th century.<\/p>\n<p>From humble beginnings of winning competitions at the Apollo to an inductee into the Grammy Hall of Fame, she was described as \u2018one of the most wondrous voices of the 20th century\u2019 and \u2018the ageless voice of modern jazz\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>She began her musical journey as a pioneer in the bebop style and was described as sharp tongued and eccentric and sang with a style of her own.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe show might not be what some people think \u2013 it is not the typical Sarah Vaughan songs,\u201d Fiona said. \u201cI went down a rabbit warren and read biographies and she was made to record the popular music of the time and didn\u2019t have a choice and many of her biggest hits were songs she didn\u2019t love.
