{"id":9139,"date":"2024-04-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-19T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=9139"},"modified":"2024-04-18T20:42:44","modified_gmt":"2024-04-18T10:42:44","slug":"indoor-bowls-season-springs-into-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/sport\/indoor-bowls-season-springs-into-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Indoor Bowls season springs into action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association opened its 2024 season on April 11 with a Mixed Triples Championship.<\/p>\n<p>The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association opened its 2024 season with the Miller Timber Joinery\/Mt Gambier Isuzu Utes Mixed Triples Championship with president Stephen Von Duve greeting all players.<\/p>\n<p>Before the official formalities took place President Stephen Von Duve made a special presentation to Fiona Pearson, Keisha Pearson and Serena Bourn handing over cheques from the Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association to assist them with their trip to Pukekohe New Zealand and wishing them all the best in the Australian team in the Trans Tasman Test.<\/p>\n<p>Once the presentation was made President Stephen then invited the association\u2019s patron Athol Malseed to roll the first jack and association\u2019s patroness Shirley Gifford to roll the first bowl to officially open the 2024 season.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9153\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9153\" style=\"width: 555px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9153 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2024\/04\/PatronandPatroness_44326-1.jpg?_t=1713436940\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"809\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2024\/04\/PatronandPatroness_44326-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2024\/04\/PatronandPatroness_44326-1-206x300.jpg 206w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2024\/04\/PatronandPatroness_44326-1-702x1024.jpg 702w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2024\/04\/PatronandPatroness_44326-1-768x1120.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9153\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Patron Athol Malseed &amp; patroness Shirley Gifford happy to be together to open the 2024 Indoor Bowls Season<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Mixed Triples Championship followed with 21 team entries, with the Post-Tel team of Lorraine Van Den Hoogen, Keisha Pearson and Craig Pearson defeating the Kongorong team of Frank McArdle, Kay Milton and Heather Glynn in the first semi final 6 shots to 5 and in the second semi final the Commercial Club team of Vince Oakley, Doreen Oakley and John Oakley took victory over a combined Saints and Post-Tel team of Nancy Horrigan, Veronica Opie and Stephen Von Duve 8 shots to 6.<\/p>\n<p>The final had the Oakley team scoring shots on the first four ends to lead 6 &#8211; 0 but on the fifth end the Pearson scored three shots and then two shots on the six end only to put them one shot behind.<\/p>\n<p>But on the last end the Oakley team kept their cool and scored one shot to give the Commercial Club team of Vince Oakley, Doreen Oakley and John Oakley victory and claim the first Association championship for the year, the Miller Timber Joinery\/Mt Gambier Isuzu Utes Mixed Triples Championship 7 shots to 5.<\/p>\n<p>In the consolation final it was the clash of almost two Glenburnie teams except for one Post-Tel player.<\/p>\n<p>The consolation winners were the team of Allan Martin, Fiona Rochow and Perria Davis defeating the hard trying team of Jo Barr, Bob Barr and Simon Davis to beat them 6 shots to 3.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association opened its 2024 season on April 11 with a Mixed Triples Championship.
