THE State Government is launching a new grants program to understand how disease and health issues affect women.<\/p>\n

The Women’s Medical Research Grants Program will see grants between $50,000 and $150,000 awarded for one-year research initiatives focused on sex and gender comparisons and under-funded or under-researched conditions impacting women.<\/p>\n

All areas of medial research will be considered, but sexual and reproductive health, cardiovascular health, oncology, orthopaedics and chronic pain have been identified as target areas.<\/p>\n

“For too long, medical misogyny has labelled women too unreliable to study due to fluctuating hormones \u2013 but this shouldn’t mean we are excluded, we should be made a focus because of these biological differences,” Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas said.<\/p>\n

“Many medical conditions unique to women or those that affect us differently or disproportionately, haven’t received the funding or focus they should \u2013 these grants will help Victorian women get the care they deserve.”<\/p>\n

Eligible applicants must be from a Victorian Administering Institution and undertaking research in a health and medical field.<\/p>\n
