{"id":10051,"date":"2024-12-06T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-05T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/athletes-chase-glory-at-all-schools\/"},"modified":"2024-12-06T04:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-12-05T17:00:00","slug":"athletes-chase-glory-at-all-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/athletes-chase-glory-at-all-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Athletes chase glory at All-Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ATHLETICS Bendigo Region is well-represented in Victoria&#8217;s team of 227 at this weekend&#8217;s Australian All Schools field and track championships in Brisbane.<\/p>\n<p>The three-day meet starts today, Friday 6 December at Queensland SAC in Nathan, Mount Gravatt.<\/p>\n<p>A group of 11 athletes with links to Athletics Bendigo Region clubs will be in action across a wide range of events.<\/p>\n<p>Weeroona College&#8217;s Kai Norton starred at the state finals in Lakeside, South Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>Season-bests of 54.55m at hammer and 53.97m in javelin are likely to put Norton who is a member of South Bendigo Athletics Club in medal contention in the under-16 finals.<\/p>\n<p>Another hammer contender will be Hailey Stubbs from Sacred Heart College Kyneton\/Bendigo Harriers in the under-17 class.<\/p>\n<p>At pole vault it will be Weeroona College&#8217;s\/South Bendigo&#8217;s Jordyn Lewis aiming to surpass her best of three metres in the under-14 final.<\/p>\n<p>On the track, Bendigo South East&#8217;s\/University&#8217;s Avery McDermid and Chelsea Tickell from South Bendigo AC are in great form.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2024\/12\/kai-norton-javelin_59653.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"536\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Javelin-thrower Kai Norton.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>McDermid will aim to improve on season-bests of 1.54 and 3.51 in the under-17 800m and 1500m finals.<\/p>\n<p>Tickell struck gold in the under-16 1500m at the finals and has a season-best time of 4.41.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2000m steeplechase action it will be Girton Grammar&#8217;s\/University&#8217;s Abbey Reid and Sacred Heart Kyneton&#8217;s Sarah Fitzpatrick in the under-17 final.<\/p>\n<p>The under-15 2000m steeplechase includes Charlise McQueen from Marist College Bendigo\/Eaglehawk AC.<\/p>\n<p>Another Sacred Heart student in action will be Tyler Fynch in the under-15 3000m.<\/p>\n<p>Fynch has flown around the Bendigo and Lakeside tracks in the red and white of South Bendigo.<\/p>\n<p>St Joseph&#8217;s Echuca&#8217;s Scarlett Southern will race in the under-18 400m.<\/p>\n<p>The talented runner competes for Echuca-Moama in Shield League.<\/p>\n<p>High jump contenders include Girton Grammar&#8217;s Kate Wilson in the under-16 class.<\/p>\n<p>The jumps ace is part of Eaglehawk&#8217;s powerful squad.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ATHLETICS Bendigo Region is well-represented in Victoria&#8217;s team of 227 at this weekend&#8217;s Australian All Schools field and track championships in Brisbane.
