<\/p>\nVirgin Australia is making history with the launch of Australia\u2019s first-ever pet-friendly passenger flights.<\/p>\n
From 16 October, travellers will be able to book their cats or small dogs on select Virgin services between Melbourne and the Gold Coast and Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast.<\/p>\n
Pets will travel in airline-approved carriers in the cabin, rather than the cargo hold \u2013 a first for an Australian airline. This move aligns Virgin with international carriers like United and Air Canada that already allow pets in the cabin on select routes.<\/p>\n
Only a limited number of pet bookings will be available per flight at launch. Virgin says it will monitor demand and feedback before expanding the offering to more routes.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom October, pets will truly become part of the family holiday,\u201d a Virgin spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether it\u2019s a trip to the beach or visiting loved ones, we\u2019re making it easier to bring them along.\u201d<\/p>\n
Velocity Frequent Flyer members will also be able to redeem points to book pet travel, giving pet owners more flexibility when planning their next getaway.<\/p>\n
In another update, Virgin will change its Economy carry-on baggage policy from 2 February.<\/p>\n
The weight allowance will increase from 7kg to 8kg, but passengers will be limited to just one main item instead of two. A small personal item, like a handbag or laptop, is still allowed.<\/p>\n
Virgin Australia Chief Operations Officer Chris Snook said the change is about simplicity.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese changes will help deliver a smoother start to the journey and a more comfortable experience on board,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Passengers in Business Class, Economy X or Velocity status holders will still be allowed two bags up to 14kg, plus a small item.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
