Geelong has seen inspiring examples of women breaking barriers and thriving in the manufacturing industry.<\/p>\n

From engineers and technicians to managers and executives, women are making their mark and driving positive change.<\/p>\n

Their resilience, determination, and passion are not only helping to reshape the industry but also inspiring future generations of women to pursue careers in manufacturing.<\/p>\n

As International Women’s Day 2024 is commemorated, it’s time to acknowledge and celebrate these remarkable women.<\/p>\n

Geelong has a rich manufacturing history, and in recent years, there has been a noticeable shift towards promoting inclusivity and diversity in the workplace, with more women taking on leadership roles and making significant strides in traditionally male-dominated fields.<\/p>\n

Some have overcome systemic barriers while many more have been encouraged and mentored by enlightened management.<\/p>\n

Many women would say they joined for a job and wound up with a powerful career, with evidence suggesting employers know the benefits of fostering a diverse workforce.<\/p>\n

When people from different backgrounds, disciplines and perspectives come together, they bring a range of ideas and approaches to problem-solving \u2013 which leads to innovative new products, processes, and technologies, and this drives competitiveness.<\/p>\n

By tapping into a larger pool of talent, the manufacturing industry can also help address talent shortages and skills gaps.<\/p>\n

Decision-makers have identified that despite energetic strategies across their businesses, they still struggle to attract and retain women.<\/p>\n

Geelong Manufacturing Council’s diversity and inclusion programs \u2013 Women in Manufacturing Network, Seed2STEM and Girls Leading Advanced Manufacturing \u2013 aim to promote, support & encourage women’s participation in the manufacturing sector, bringing all these benefits and more.<\/p>\n

The programs tell young women, their mentors, and parents what opportunities there are in manufacturing and showcase the range of inspiring careers that are available.<\/p>\n

On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate the achievements of women who are making their way in the manufacturing industry in Geelong and recommit to building a more inclusive and equitable future for all.<\/p>\n
