{"id":9572,"date":"2024-06-21T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-20T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/young-leaders-speak-up\/"},"modified":"2024-06-21T04:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-06-20T17:00:00","slug":"young-leaders-speak-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/young-leaders-speak-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Young leaders speak up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>YOUNG public speakers have gathered to take part in the Ballarat round of Legacy&#8217;s Junior Public Speaking Competition.<\/p>\n<p>The event, held last week at Legacy House, featured competitors from Loreto College, Ballarat Grammar, St Patrick&#8217;s College and Phoenix College.<\/p>\n<p>The competition winners were Charlotte Irvin from Loreto College and Phoebe Pittard from Ballarat Grammar, and they will go on to compete in the state final in September.<\/p>\n<p>April Yearwood from Loreto College was runner up.<\/p>\n<p>Speech topics ranged from the Lucas Girls to social media and domestic violence, and Charlotte said the competition was a great chance for her to push herself.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/06\/winners_79966.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Competitors were from Loreto College, Ballarat Grammar, St Patrick&#8217;s College and Phoenix College.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wanted to challenge myself and I also wanted to improve my public speaking skills as I&#8217;ve always loved it,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I enjoy doing it and it is a good extra-curricular activity to do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The competition also provides an opportunity for the speakers to listen and learn from each other.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s good listening to others and learning off them and seeing what you can improve in your next speech,&#8221; said Charlotte.<\/p>\n<p>This year is the first time the state and national finals will be held in Ballarat and Phoebe said it is an exciting opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s really good that Ballarat&#8217;s getting recognition having it hosted here,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It will definitely calm the nerves a little bit in future times.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>YOUNG public speakers have gathered to take part in the Ballarat round of Legacy&#8217;s Junior Public Speaking Competition.
