WORLD surfing champion Pauline Menczer will drop into Torquay Books next week to talk about her inspiring memoir Surf Like a Woman.<\/p>\n

The 1993 women’s world tour winner will be in conversation with Torquay author Gill Hutchison at South Coast Surfboards on Friday, October 18.<\/p>\n

Menczer will shed light on her surfing career and give an uncensored account into “becoming world champ when women weren’t welcome on the waves”.<\/p>\n

From fighting against sexism when money for women’s surfing was “a pittance”, to sponsors ignoring her because she was homosexual and didn’t have “the beach babe look”, Surf Like a Woman is described as an “inspirational story of a true underdog battler”.<\/p>\n

The star of the show said she could not wait to get down to Torquay.<\/p>\n

“I totally can’t wait to get down there and see everyone. It’s worked out super well that I could double up and have a bit of a show at Torquay before the Queenscliff Literary Festival too,” Menczer said.<\/p>\n

“I had a couple of really good results down at Bells Beach and on the Surf Coast, so every time I come down there’s a lot of reminiscing.”<\/p>\n

Menczer said people could expect to hear everything at the book launch, “warts and all”.<\/p>\n

“The book itself has everything in there. I’ve totally been honest, which is something I’m really proud of.<\/p>\n

“For me, it’s really great to be coming down a bit after it’s been released too. It’ll mean people who have already read the book can ask questions related to it.<\/p>\n

“There’s lots of excitement and I truly can’t wait to share it with the Torquay community.”<\/p>\n

Ms Hutchison said she was anticipating interviewing Menczer about her incredible life.<\/p>\n

“We are thrilled Pauline is going to stop by on her travels down here.<\/p>\n

“She actually endorsed my book Surf Like when it came out a few years ago, so this feels really full circle to interview and meet her. It’s going to be a real honour.”<\/p>\n

Menczer will also be doing a live Q and A and will be signing copies of her book.<\/p>\n

The event is free to attend and will begin at 5.30pm.<\/p>\n
