{"id":9863,"date":"2021-07-09T04:57:38","date_gmt":"2021-07-08T17:57:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/voices-raised-for-womens-safety\/"},"modified":"2021-07-09T04:57:38","modified_gmt":"2021-07-08T17:57:38","slug":"voices-raised-for-womens-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/voices-raised-for-womens-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"Voices raised for women\u2019s safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHAMPIONING and celebrating women while advocating for their safety, the youth-led <em>Raise Your Voice<\/em> art exhibition is on display at the Unicorn Lane outdoor gallery.<\/p>\n<p>The visual showcase exists to publicly spotlight, challenge, and condemn misogyny, gender-based discrimination, domestic violence, sexual harassment and assault.<\/p>\n<p>Project leader Brodie Kamp said eight artists are exhibiting as part of <em>Raise Your Voice<\/em>, which officially launched with live music and speeches late last month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always wanted this to be an in-person show so people could really see the work, interact with it and have those important conversations, which is hard to do online&#8230; with quality and algorithms,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Unicorn Lane, it\u2019s out here for everyone to see and people can have a read through the information we\u2019ve provided.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen\u2019s rights are so important to talk about. Society has ignored the problem, which has led to the state we\u2019re in now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, Karissa Cribbes has harnessed her origami skills to draw attention to domestic violence, and some of her creations have been presented on Unicorn Lane.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne woman a week dies because of domestic violence, so I\u2019ve represented that in paper cranes. Seeing it is different to hearing it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of gender-based violence happens in close quarters, so having it visible and out in the open in this way helps people understand it and take it seriously.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s being called out here. You can\u2019t hide from it.
