{"id":9905,"date":"2025-02-23T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-22T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/rural-women-shine-in-agrifutures-award\/"},"modified":"2025-03-04T15:05:30","modified_gmt":"2025-03-04T04:05:30","slug":"rural-women-shine-in-agrifutures-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/rural-women-shine-in-agrifutures-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Rural women shine in AgriFutures award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE agriculture industry is quite diverse, with both women and men working cooperatively to advance the sector that is becoming an attractive and rewarding career pathway for the broader workforce.<\/p>\n<p>With more and more women choosing ag as a career, AgriFutures have recognised three inspiring Victorian women who have been named as finalists for the 2025 AgriFutures Rural Women&#8217;s Award.<\/p>\n<p>This award recognises their leadership, innovation, and contribution to rural industries and communities.<\/p>\n<p>AgriFutures Australia chief operating officer Belinda Allitt said Australia&#8217;s leading award acknowledges and supports the essential role women play in rural industries and communities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We couldn&#8217;t be prouder to announce this year&#8217;s Victorian state finalists.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These three women are role models for the next generation of rural leaders, turning their passions for science, youth engagement and innovation into projects that are making a difference in rural and regional Australia.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/02\/DenLim_04640.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Den Lim (Churchill) \u2013 Founder of Uplift Collective.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is an important step in providing a platform for women&#8217;s voices to be heard and to shine a light on the incredible work being done to future-proof our rural industries and communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The award celebrates women driving positive change in rural and regional Australia by empowering them with the skills, support, and leadership opportunities to shape their industries and communities.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its 24th year, the award is a nationally recognised program of influence, providing each state and territory winner with a $15,000 Westpac grant, professional development opportunities, and access to a powerful alumni network.<\/p>\n<p>The Victorian winner will be announced in March at a ceremony in Melbourne and will then go on to represent Victoria at the National Award in September at Parliament House, where the national winner will receive $20,000.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/02\/MarySept2024_06764.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr Mary Cole (Garfield) \u2013 A leading scientist, educator, and founder of Agpath.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 Victorian finalists are:<\/p>\n<p>Sherri Symons (Ellerslie) \u2013 Founder of WoolGrow Australia, creating sustainable gardening solutions using 100% wool products to support the environment and the crossbred wool industry while promoting eco-friendly gardening<\/p>\n<p>Den Lim (Churchill) \u2013 Founder of Uplift Collective, a collaboration of more than 20 organisations providing free, engaging activities for young people across Latrobe and Baw Baw, helping them connect with local services through entertainment, cultural events, sports, and the arts<\/p>\n<p>Dr Mary Cole (Garfield) \u2013 A leading scientist, educator, and founder of Agpath, a biological farming research and education centre helping farmers reduce costs, improve soil health, and build more sustainable businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Victoria has a strong record of success at the national level.
