{"id":9935,"date":"2024-12-29T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-28T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/young-theatre-star-reflects-onbreakout-year\/"},"modified":"2024-12-29T04:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-12-28T17:00:00","slug":"young-theatre-star-reflects-onbreakout-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/young-theatre-star-reflects-onbreakout-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Young theatre star reflects onbreakout year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A GEELONG youngster has taken the stage by storm this year and has high aspirations for an even bigger 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Harrison Coppock has let his performing do the talking in 2024, securing roles in Geelong and even some abroad.<\/p>\n<p>The 12-year-old earned his first professional role in May, appearing at Margaret Court Arena in Opera Australia&#8217;s production of Tosca.<\/p>\n<p>In August, he travelled to London to attend the West End Stage Summer Camp and Pineapple Studios for Musical Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>On the 16-day trip, he took part in elite training and performed live at the legendary His Majesty&#8217;s Theatre at the completion of the course.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/12\/IMG_7925_23996.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The world is this 12-year-old&#8217;s oyster.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He also took to the stage in Opera Australia&#8217;s production of The Magic Flute at the Geelong Performing Arts Centre (GPAC).<\/p>\n<p>In January, he will play the role of Michael in Footlight&#8217;s coming production of Billy Elliot.<\/p>\n<p>He said this year had been beyond his wildest dreams.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When I found out I got my first gig this year it gave me great confidence to continue applying for roles,&#8221; Harrison said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Then going to London and having the opportunity to dance and be on stage with my friends was such a fun and enjoyable thing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The performing arts is a fun place to be. Everyone is nice and so supportive. I can&#8217;t wait for more of it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/12\/IMG_7926_23962.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Harrison Coppock is one of the region&#8217;s top up and coming stage performers.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Harrison has just completed Grade 6 at Armstrong Creek School and was captain of the school&#8217;s performing arts group. He will head to Oberon High School to continue his education in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Harrison said he had high hopes for next year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Billy Elliot could be my biggest role so far, and I can&#8217;t wait for it,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My voice might break soon, which might change my singing a bit, so I want to learn an instrument or do more opera.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Opera is when you get trained professionally, which could be a great opportunity for me. I love jazz and dancing too; more of that would be great.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Harrison said he one day hopes to be a Broadway artist or a professional opera singer with Opera Australia.
