{"id":9963,"date":"2024-11-08T09:11:41","date_gmt":"2024-11-07T22:11:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/united-record-history-making-win\/"},"modified":"2024-11-08T09:11:41","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T22:11:41","slug":"united-record-history-making-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/united-record-history-making-win\/","title":{"rendered":"United record history-making win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HISTORY was made last night (Thursday, November 7) at Geelong Arena, with Geelong United winning its first WNBL match.<\/p>\n<p>United defeated reigning champions Southside Flyers 90-87 in a seesawing contest.<\/p>\n<p>The home side led at every break and held off a late burst from the Flyers in the last term to run out three-point winners.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong had an even contribution from all five starters, four of whom scored in double digits.<\/p>\n<p>It was another huge performance for captain Keely Froling, who scored 18 points and collected 14 rebounds in a double-double.<\/p>\n<p>US import Haley Jones and guard Gemma Potter also had strong games, scoring 19 and 12 points respectively to co-anchor the offence.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_106868\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-106868\" style=\"width: 399px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-106868 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/11\/464895748_17874372123206334_2320853904816793709_n.jpg?_t=1731017476\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"499\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-106868\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">US import Haley Jones looked right at home last night for Geelong United.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the Flyers, Naz Hillmon did her best to keep the travelling side in the game, putting up 27 points and pulling down 10 boards.<\/p>\n<p>A power forward who has suited up for Atlanta Dream in the WNBA the past three seasons, Hillmon will be a player to watch throughout 2024-25 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>United have evened the ledger at 1-1 and will look to build a winning streak this Sunday, November 10 against the Bendigo Spirit.<\/p>\n<p>Bendigo is fresh off a 14-point win over the Adelaide Lightning.<\/p>\n<p>Dynamic shooting duo Sami Whitcomb and Casey Samuels amassed 27 and 21 points respectively.
