{"id":9965,"date":"2024-11-06T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-05T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/united-aim-to-get-on-winners-list-against-bendigo\/"},"modified":"2024-11-06T04:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-11-05T17:00:00","slug":"united-aim-to-get-on-winners-list-against-bendigo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/united-aim-to-get-on-winners-list-against-bendigo\/","title":{"rendered":"United aim to get on winners&#8217; list against Bendigo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG United will be hoping to record a victory on Sunday afternoon (November 10) in its Round 2 WNBL clash with the Bendigo Spirit.<\/p>\n<p>The league&#8217;s newest expansion club will be hoping to find its feet in Bendigo after a tough start to the season thus far.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong&#8217;s debut match on Wednesday last week didn&#8217;t go to plan, going down 58-84 to the champions of two years ago, the Townsville Fire.<\/p>\n<p>Captain Keely Froling top scored for United, putting up 15 points and 7 rebounds on the night, while her sister Alicia led the Fire with 17\u00a0and 9.<\/p>\n<p>The Fire capitalised on Geelong&#8217;s poor defense at times and shot 56 per cent on two-pointers and eight three-pointers.<\/p>\n<p>This Sunday&#8217;s opponent Bendigo are fresh off a 14-point win over the Adelaide Lightning.<\/p>\n<p>Dynamic shooting duo Sami Whitcomb and Casey Samuels amassed 27 and 21 points respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The pair will need to be kept on a tight leash by United if they are to have a chance at taking home the win.<\/p>\n<p>United head coach Chris Lucas said his squad are keen to respond well against Bendigo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_149624\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-149624\" style=\"width: 402px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-149624\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/11\/Round2Sundaypreview_28935-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"402\" height=\"602\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-149624\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hannah Hank puts up a shot for United against Townsville. It&#8217;s going to take some time. It&#8217;s a new group of women.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Keely Froling and Gemma Potter are the only two in our squad who have played WNBL consistently over the past few years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are going to be ok, but there are going to be some rough times.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Froling said the team will be looking to be more physical on the court after being outmuscled in recent matches.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;WNBL is hard.
