{"id":9967,"date":"2025-01-11T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-10T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/geelong-swimmers-find-success-at-championships\/"},"modified":"2025-01-11T04:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T17:00:00","slug":"geelong-swimmers-find-success-at-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/shewhothrives\/geelong-swimmers-find-success-at-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Geelong swimmers find success at championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LOCAL swimmers have emerged from the water victorious after claiming the number one spot in the Mattiolo Victorian Age Long Course Championships last month.<\/p>\n<p>Members representing the Melbourne Swimming Club&#8217;s Geelong branch (MSC Geelong) joined their MSC Metro teammates in the pool for the five-day competition.<\/p>\n<p>The whole-club performance saw MSC lead the scoring from the beginning to emerge as champions.<\/p>\n<p>Held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, the event resulted in MSC Geelong swimmers taking home 15 medals.<\/p>\n<p>James Logan, 18, starred across the board, winning 10 individual medals in the multiclass events for swimmers with disability.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m fortunate to have the support of the club and coaches. Training is hard work but fun when you&#8217;re surrounded by a great team,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_109320\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-109320\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-109320 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/01\/JamesLoganwithCoachL_33462-1-938x1024.jpg?_t=1736372134\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"699\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-109320\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Senior coach Lucky Weerakkody with James Logan, who won 10 medals at the championships. Photos: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Logan set a new Australian S15 record in the 400 metre freestyle and was awarded Age Group Champion in the 15-18 yrs category, with his sights now set on the 2025 Deaflympics\u00a0in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>The success for the Geelong team didn&#8217;t end there, with the Victorian Open Water Championships held in Geelong on December 21.<\/p>\n<p>Diving in at Eastern Beach, the team took home another 10 medals, with Liam Walker, Billie O&#8217;Bree and Archie Greco winning gold in their respective events.<\/p>\n<p>The club was founded four years ago, with MSC led by an Olympic coach who oversees the four MSC branches in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Pope said the club set out in 2020 to be the premier swimming club in the state, and achieved the goal at the recent championships.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Results as a club and individuals were testament to the swimmers&#8217; application to their training.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LOCAL swimmers have emerged from the water victorious after claiming the number one spot in the Mattiolo Victorian Age Long Course Championships last month.
