Surf Music: Bailey Bates from Bones and Jones

May 3, 2018 BY

Bones and Jones band members and their album cover.

We love to support local on the Surf Coast. Perhaps we should support more local original music

I had the pleasure of catching up with Bailey Bates from Bones and Jones.

CH: Which artists/bands lie at the heart of the new album?

BB: We all grew up listening to lots of older bands such as The Beatles, The Kinks, Creedence and also old blues artists through either self-discovery or through our parents.

CH: Out of all the Melbourne band rooms, which is your fav to play and why?

BB: Our favourite venue would have to be The Gasometer, which is where our album launch is. It’s just got a super cool vibe to it and a nice big roof that they open up on a good day or night.

CH: Thoughts hearing your music play on triple j?

BB: It’s been pretty cool to be hearing something you’ve created and played being heard by people throughout Australia! The response from people hearing our tunes on the radio has been awesome too.

CH: What does surf music mean to you?

BB: Surf music I feel can really be any kind of music. As long as people can listen to it together while hanging out, getting ready for a surf or whatever you may be doing. It should be something that just feels good.

CH: Where is the album launch?

BB: The album launch is at The Gasometer in Collingwood on May 5.
