Surf Music: Local music fans have options within striking distance

July 25, 2018 BY

Dedicated local music fans either leave the coast for Melbourne (perhaps Geelong) on the weekend, or simply flock to a local spot on that rare occasion.

Sure it’s a gamble, but there are local legends getting away with it, I will get to that in a minute…. (depending on how fast you read).

This week I’d like to spin your attention to something special. Actually two things. Music events; showcasing local/locals playing Melbourne.

Firstly, let’s get specific. As always in this column, I will be highlighting artists that create their own original music.

The word cover comes into play only when there is a deep connection to a secondary artwork, reworking, attention to detail, artistic attenuation, and juxtaposition of aesthetic. Not always all but at least one or some.

If you are not already aware of ‘The Sound Doctor’ then it’s your lucky day.

This guy is a local GP and has been putting on incredible live music shows at the Anglesea Hall.

Now I know it’s early but better now than later when it’s sold out!

Across the Westgate, this August 11 at The John Curtain Hotel catch Bones & Jones “Social Anxiety” Single Launch + Bin +Auntie Leo & The Backstabbers + Sledgehammer. Tickets avail @ door.

Locally speaking; this Saturday August 25 at The Anglesea Hall you can catch Fraser A. Gorman + Bec Goring, as well as Emma Pask + The Stills on Friday August 24. Tickets avail @ thesounddoctor.info.
