Surf Music: Surf Music Festival coming this weekend

June 27, 2018 BY

Bar 61 is proving to be the most reputable live music venue in Torquay.

I am well accustomed to the trip to Melbourne every weekend for a decent live show, but I guess a local hub for industrious musicians to thrive isn’t such a bad thing.

For over a decade, the Torquay live scene has sounded like a tight cover band. Super tight. Sometimes exactly the same as the original artists.

It might be your cup of tea, but for some it’s a little like you lost a Tim Tam in a cuppa.

Personally, the sound of a tight cover band makes me want to evacuate a venue ASAP, it just doesn’t resonate with me.

Interestingly revamped cover songs are a different story, but for as long as I can remember industrious and innovative music has always moved me.

Bands/artists that go above and beyond to attenuate their live show and throw the little money they have into creating and distributing independent records should be trophied.

The Surf Coast is full of them!

The legendary Brayden Vallance from Bar 61 has given us the green light to have a crack at curating a good old-fashioned music festival.

The first Surf Music Festival is this Saturday June 30 at 12pm.

A fine selection of local artists that love to surf and may or may not have had a bit of triple j play this year.

First round tickets have just sold out. You might want to grab second-round tickets from Waves Music Co. or Bar 61 before they sell out.
