{"id":101159,"date":"2023-04-29T04:00:52","date_gmt":"2023-04-28T18:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=101159"},"modified":"2023-04-27T12:08:09","modified_gmt":"2023-04-27T02:08:09","slug":"states-best-longboarders-to-do-battle-at-possos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/states-best-longboarders-to-do-battle-at-possos\/","title":{"rendered":"State&#8217;s best longboarders to do battle at Possos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE state&#8217;s best longboarders will descend upon Point Impossible this weekend for Round 2 of the 2023 Victorian Longboard Titles, with crucial points up for grabs for both WSL and state team positions.<\/p>\n<p>More than 50 surfers will take to the waters of the Surf Coast on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30, with top performers in the open men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s field to inch closer to securing a wildcard into the main event of the Bells Beach Longboard Classic WSL event this August.<\/p>\n<p>The two-stop event series is also the exclusive pathway for the state&#8217;s elite surfers to be selected into the Victorian Longboard Team, which will compete later this year at the Australian Longboard Titles.<\/p>\n<p>Surfers set to pull on the jersey this weekend include two-time Australian champion Ben Considine (Torquay), 2022 state champion Bea Conroy (Point Lonsdale), 2022 Over 55 Men&#8217;s Australian champion Greg Brown (Torquay) and former Australian champion Molly Powell (Anglesea).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_101160\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-101160\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-101160\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/04\/MollyPowell_NC_0F3A3_49293.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-101160\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Molly Powell surfing in Round 1 of the Victorian Longboarding Titles<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With the two wildcard spots still up for grabs, Surfing Victoria chief executive officer Adam Robertson said he couldn&#8217;t wait to see who would come out victorious.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The second round of this year&#8217;s State Longboard Titles certainly has a lot on the line.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A wildcard into an event like the Bells Beach Longboard Classic can be a huge stepping stone for any athlete, along with a huge opportunity to showcase their skills against the best.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We just saw Xavier Huxtable in the Rip Curl Pro show how dangerous a wildcard can be and how the current crop of emerging Victorian surfers have the talent to take down the best surfers in the world.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Victoria has historically had a lot of brilliant women&#8217;s and men&#8217;s longboarders, so it&#8217;s nice to be able to host events like the state titles that give them the chance to showcase their ability.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_101167\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-101167\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-101167 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/04\/GregBrown_NC_0F3A388_49210-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1682479400\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-101167\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2022 Australian Over 55 Men&#8217;s Longboarding champion Greg Brown will be pulling on the jersey.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The primary location for the event will be Point Impossible and heats will begin at 7:30am.<\/p>\n<p>For heat draws and live scores, head to liveheats.com\/surfingvictoria<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE state&#8217;s best longboarders will descend upon Point Impossible this weekend for Round 2 of the 2023 Victorian Longboard Titles, with crucial points up for grabs for both WSL and state team positions.
