citing financial and logistics issues, as well as a busy January cycling calendar, as the primary factors behind the decision..<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201cIt is with a heavy heart we are announcing the famous \u2018Bay Crits\u2019 have taken their last pedal stroke, with event organisers making the tough call that the much-loved event will not be continuing into 2024,\u201d event organisers John Trevorrow and Karin Jones said in the joint statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201cFor the best part of 30 years, and despite some very trying times, we have collectively found a way to make this wonderful event happen, an event cherished by riders, fans, and stakeholders alike and one that has enjoyed a significant place in the Australian cycling calendar.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71324\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71324\" style=\"width: 557px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-71324\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/061A1997-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"557\" height=\"371\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-71324\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ruby Roseman-Gannon won this year&#8217;s Bay Crits in the elite women&#8217;s division.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Bay Crits has hosted Olympic athletes, World Champions, Grand Tour stage winners, and a litany of international stars dating back to the event\u2019s first race held in 1989, with a \u00a0women\u2019s category introduced in 1994.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">It has historically provided a springboard for homegrown talent and a local showcase for global superstars in Geelong.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71327\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71327\" style=\"width: 644px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-71327\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A6097-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"644\" height=\"429\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-71327\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bay Crits competitors were always treated to a magnificent view of Geelong&#8217;s waterfront.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201cThe financial and logistics issues we have absorbed now over an extended period of time have become simply too prohibitive to continue, with a significant increase in costs again this year,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201cThe packed January cycling calendar has also impacted on the event with it regularly having to start on New Year\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201cThis has made it challenging for many riders and fans, especially those coming from interstate, to participate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201cThese factors have increased to such an extent that it is completely uneconomic and unrealistic to get to the start line next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71332\" class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Cyclists Brenton Jones and Ruby Roseman-Gannon will end as the reigning champions of the event following their Bay Crits wins at the start of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201cIt\u2019s been quite a ride, but all good things must come to an end, and today it is the famous \u2018Bay Crits\u2019 that have crossed the line for the final time,\u201d
