ANGLESEA<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00bb Weather conditions have not been the best for fishing
\n\u00bb A few pinkies, flathead and some whiting have been caught
\n\u00bb A few squid are also being caught
\n\u00bb Salmon being caught off the beaches in the area
\n\u00bb Occasional gummy reports.<\/p>\n

BARWON HEADS<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00bb Still pinkies to be caught off shore
\n\u00bb Reports of elephant fish being caught in the river
\n\u00bb The Barwon river is also producing whiting, trevally and salmon
\n\u00bb Some bream also being reported.<\/p>\n

TORQUAY<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00bb Some nice whiting in close on the reefs with some pinkies also being caught
\n\u00bb Salmon still on the go off the beaches
\n\u00bb Gummy sharks have been reported off shore and off the beaches as well
\n\u00bb Good reports of flathead being caught off shore
\n\u00bb Occasional reports of snapper being caught
\n\u00bb Still plenty of bream in Spring Creek plus some salmon and mullet.<\/p>\n

QUEENSCLIFF<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00bb St Leonards is still seeing reports of whiting, plenty of squid as well as some snapper still available out at the 20-metre mark, plus some good flathead as well as the odd gummy shark
\n\u00bb indented head has whiting, squid, snapper and flathead
\n\u00bb Swan Bay reports some flathead. Calamari and some King George whiting at the entrance
\n\u00bb Reports of salmon and some kingfish in the rip
\n\u00bb Point Lonsdale pier producing some nice salmon, some whiting and a few pinkie snapper and calamari
\n\u00bb The White Lady continues producing a few squid, flathead and whiting
\n\u00bb The creek, trevally, salmon and mullet reported
\n\u00bb Plenty of salmon and flathead reported in Corio Bay.<\/p>\n

WELL here we are in the middle of the Easter school holidays and once again we see more and more people coming to our coastline for the opportunity to relax, unwind, and to experience things that they have not experienced before or may have already experienced, but want to do so once again.<\/p>\n

For many, one of the best ways to relax is to cast a line and to catch a fish, take a photo and put the fish back.<\/p>\n

(Plus, hopefully send in their photo to me of their big catch.)<\/p>\n

Today most fishers continue to practice catch and release as well as responsible fishing, in so much as they only take what they need, but quite a few are also new to the experience of fishing and want to introduce their children into one of the most satisfying pastimes they could hope to undertake.<\/p>\n

Fishing is not just about fishing, it\u2019s about being outdoors, enjoying the sounds and the environment that one can find themselves in while waiting on a fish to take your bait and then experience that quick but often too short adrenaline surge, that comes from hooking on to your big catch.<\/p>\n

We should be encouraging this among the young as much as we can, getting the children out into the outdoors, out of their rooms and off their computers.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think there would be too many people out there that would disagree with that.<\/p>\n

Fisheries Victoria is trying to help facilitate just that by providing programs, information, advice and even fishing clinics to help those who want just that opportunity to learn how to enjoy fishing.<\/p>\n

We are extremely lucky in our region to have ample opportunities to do just that.<\/p>\n

Keeping that in mind, here is a quick reminder that might just help over these holidays.<\/p>\n

Autumn holiday program for the kids<\/h2>\n

For those coping with the kids over this school holiday period the Victorian Fisheries Authority Autumn holiday program is underway at the Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre (MFDC), 2A Bellarine Highway, Queenscliff.<\/p>\n

The Marine Discovery centre runs a number of activities to help keep your children entertained and help educate them about our Marine environment.<\/p>\n
