MORE than 300 people attended the 2023 Surf Coast Times Torquay Cup raising $10,655 to support the work of Shory Park, Australia’s leading off the track thoroughbred retraining and rehoming group.<\/p>\n
Local businesses and community members enjoyed an exciting racing at the Geelong Racing Club for the eleventh anniversary of the popular annual meet.<\/p>\n
Times News Group managing director Warick Brown said the event was once again a fantastic outing for all involved.<\/p>\n
“As always, the Surf Coast Times Torquay Cup is a great opportunity for business owners and the community to get together.<\/p>\n
“With over 300 people in attendance we were able to raise a significant amount as a fundraising for Shory Park and their Off the Track work at Mount Duneed.”<\/p>\n
Major raffle prizes were provided by local businesses and sponsors on the day.<\/p>\n
Shory Park owner Nikki Cook thanked the greater Surf Coast, Bellarine and Geelong community for their incredible generosity.<\/p>\n
“That money just allows us to pay some feed bills and get some pay in stock for winter, and it takes a massive weight off us – we can order a big truckload of hay now and be sorted for the winter.<\/p>\n
“I’m very grateful for the day, and we appreciate the community’s support.”<\/p>\n
The winner of the 2400m Bet365 Surf Coast Times Torquay Cup was Poleaxed, jockeyed by Ben Allen.<\/p>\n
