THE reality is, we all have a friend or family member who may be putting on a brave face, but what\u2019s lurking below the surface can be bigger personal issues that need an outlet. There are times we just don\u2019t know what to say or how we can be of help.<\/p>\n
So, two local surfers and business operators have teamed up to bring a free event, Tomorrow Architects, to Torquay that is normally only available for AFL clubs, corporate employees and CEOs for a fee.<\/p>\n
Surfing Victoria\u2019s Pete Murphy, and real estate business owner Shaun O\u2019Callaghan representing 50-Year Storm in memory of Shaun Brooks, have facilitated this event that aims to assist men to develop skills and awareness so they can learn more, and develop abilities to open up conversations and be better equipped to handle those around them who might be going through tough times.<\/p>\n
With the help of The Bolt Blowers, Surfing Victoria and 50-Year Storm, enough money has been raised to bring this event to town for free.<\/p>\n
Pete and Shaun said that after having lost one of their best mates and other friends to suicide and knowing that there are too many men quietly suffering, it\u2019s reached a tipping point.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a community, we felt that we\u2019ve struggled to know how to help,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis event is going to build strength in the community and another step towards supporting our mates and those close to us.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s also an incredible opportunity to grow personally for those who attend and bring solidarity to an issue that is not going away, in fact, it\u2019s getting worse.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is why we have invited one of the most legendary guys who has been working across Australia to help guys like us.<\/p>\n
