{"id":10511,"date":"2018-04-11T09:43:39","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T23:43:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=10511"},"modified":"2018-04-13T11:04:46","modified_gmt":"2018-04-13T01:04:46","slug":"work-starts-on-armstrong-creek-sports-pavilion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/work-starts-on-armstrong-creek-sports-pavilion\/","title":{"rendered":"Work starts on Armstrong Creek sports pavilion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE first sports pavilion in Armstrong Creek is now under construction.<\/p>\n<p>It is part of the East Precinct sporting reserve, located on Central Boulevard, which will support sports including netball, football, soccer and cricket.<\/p>\n<p>The precinct will feature:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A multi-purpose community sports pavilion<\/li>\n<li>Two ovals with hard wickets (one with sports lighting)<\/li>\n<li>Two flood-lit netball courts, and<\/li>\n<li>Cricket training nets with two hard wicket pitches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Contractors have started earthworks on the sports ovals, and the new facilities are expected to open to the public early next year.<\/p>\n<p>The multi-purpose pavilion will feature a social room, community meeting spaces and three sets of gender neutral change rooms. Construction is expected to be finished in December 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The East Precinct sporting pavilion is funded by the City of Greater Geelong ($3.1 million) and the Victorian Government ($500,000), while the precinct\u2019s sporting reserve is being delivered by Warralily.<\/p>\n<p>The East Precinct will also include the region\u2019s largest child and community centre next to the inclusive Armstrong Creek School, which opened this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArmstrong Creek is an exciting growth area of our region and community infrastructure needs to match this growth,\u201d Geelong mayor Bruce Harwood said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will be the first of 10 new recreation reserves planned across the Armstrong Creek Growth Area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Armstrong Creek community will benefit greatly, with the development of sporting clubs at the reserve to cater for their sporting and community needs. There has already been interest from the active community keen to start sporting activities and develop clubs at the reserve.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe broader precinct includes Armstrong Creek School and the future Armstrong Creek Integrated Children\u2019s and Community Centre.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warralily general manager of development Mark Whinfield said the new sporting precinct would provide exciting new infrastructure for the growing Armstrong Creek area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWarralily is pleased to partner with the Victorian Government and the City of Greater Geelong to deliver new sporting infrastructure and community pavilion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe new sporting reserve along with the schools, the children\u2019s and community centre and The Village Warralily, will combine to make a vibrant heart for the Warralily community.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE first sports pavilion in Armstrong Creek is now under construction.
