{"id":105177,"date":"2023-06-07T04:00:49","date_gmt":"2023-06-06T18:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=105177"},"modified":"2023-06-06T15:32:51","modified_gmt":"2023-06-06T05:32:51","slug":"suns-coach-shines-bright-with-monumental-ride","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/suns-coach-shines-bright-with-monumental-ride\/","title":{"rendered":"Suns coach shines bright with monumental ride"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A FITNESS coach at the Surf Coast Suns has helped raise awareness of his club\u2019s needs for its own facilities by cycling 1,000km from Sydney to Torquay North.<\/p>\n<p>Torquay local Nathan Hudson arrived at Polwarth Oval on Friday evening to a crowd of more than 100 proud members of the Suns, who cheered him over the finish line.<\/p>\n<p>He described the 1,000km journey as one of the tougher physical challenges he has done to date, with his body and his mind playing plenty of tricks on him while in the saddle.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_105198\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-105198\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-105198 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/IMG_8469-600x380.jpg?_t=1686029122\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-105198\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hudson received plenty of high fives from those who watched him ride into Polwarth Oval.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_105199\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-105199\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-105199 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/IMG_8502-600x380.jpg?_t=1686029197\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-105199\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hudson was warmly welcomed when he rode into Torquay on Friday evening.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While the ride was tougher than he expected, Mr Hudson said he kept strong, knowing he was being supported by junior players from the Surf Coast Suns back home, who were riding bikes in their respective teams to raise awareness and funds to support the project.<\/p>\n<p>As he rode into Polwarth Oval, Mr Hudson sported a huge smile on his face and said he was incredibly proud to have completed the ride and to see the whole club and community embracing the Suns&#8217; it made it all feel really worthwhile by banding everyone together for this common cause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo ride around the block is nothing really special, but to ride from a capital city to home is a bit more significant and people might sit up and listen a bit more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope it has more impact and motivates others to not sit on their hands but to get involved in achieving this cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Suns presently share facilities with several other sports clubs at Polwarth Oval, but with the continuous growth of the club, the Suns believe the time is right to have its own clubroom.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_105201\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-105201\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-105201 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/IMG_8481-600x380.jpg?_t=1686029345\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-105201\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mr Hudson shakes hands with Surf Coast Suns president Jay Williams.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ve got 18 teams and 800 kids at the moment\u2026 there&#8217;s heaps of participation and getting these facilities will go a long way in sustaining a positive future for our club,\u201d Surf Coast Suns president Jay Williams said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe senior football\/netball program and proper facilities are ultimately our long-term goals &#8211;
