THE Surf Coast Shire is delivering a series of SHED Talks over the next two months for aspiring artists and industry professionals to learn about the creative industry.<\/p>\n
The talks, based at three Surf Coast-based sheds, first took place on Saturday (June 17), and will also take place on July 8 and July 22 as part of the shire’s first Surf Coast Arts Trail Development Program, allowing artists with learn useful tips to take the next steps in their careers.<\/p>\n
Torquay Ward councillor Rose Hodge says the shire recognise the value of arts across the municipality.<\/p>\n
“We want to empower local artists through initiatives like this so that art can continue to connect, inspire and empower,” Cr Hodge said.<\/p>\n
‘The relationship between creativity and commerce’ talk features Veronica Phillips, Simon Holloway and Cara Johnson, who will discuss the artist’s reality of making ends meet each day coupled with the desire to create on Saturday, June 17 at The Footy Shed, Deans Marsh Memorial Reserve from 1-4pm.<\/p>\n
“From passion to profession”, led by artists Nicola Cerini, Chela Edmunds and Rowena Martinich, will share how they began their professional careers out of creative practice on Saturday, July 8 at The Main Shed at Ashmore Arts, Torquay from 1pm to 4pm.<\/p>\n
“Place-based research” by Jane Bartier, Jenny Murray-Jones and Sylvia Maseyk will inform attendees of site-specific practices to aspiring artists and what it reveals about the past and present on July 22 at SHED300, Winchelsea from 1pm to 4pm.<\/p>\n
