Photos: AARON COLLINS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis year, however, turned out mostly blue skies and the waves only lapping minorly at competitors\u2019 feet as they tiptoed along Torquay, Bells, Anglesea and Sunnymeade beaches.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Men\u2019s marathon winner Mathieu Dore, from Albury, NSW, threatened the course record of 2:51:17 with record pace splits early on.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/DSC3851_62439.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 600 runners attended this year&#8217;s marathon, enjoying the beautiful sights the Surf Coast had to offer. Pictured is St Kilda runner and runner up Daniel Loughnan.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The notorious 3.5km stretch of Urquharts Beach and its high tide soft sand forced the lactic acid brakes on a little however, Dore eventually winning in a time of 3:12:30.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Loughnan from St Kilda was hot on his heels in second place, barely a minute behind crossing in 3:13:32.<\/p>\n<p>Newtown resident James Ralph from Geelong managed third place, a further 10 minutes back in 3:23:03.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 534px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/DSC3282_62353.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"534\" height=\"356\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Runner Sally Theobald.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the women\u2019s marathon, Moama-based runner Rebecca Cladingboel stormed home comfortably in 4:00:21 to take home line honours, followed 11 minutes later by Sally Theobold from Trafalgar (Vic) in second (4:11:32) and Karen Moir from Hawthorn in a close third (4:12:12).<\/p>\n<p>Team Heatcool Today\u2019s Shaun Mooreand Brad Rindfleisch won the Teams Marathon in a time of 3:33:16 with Team Tez n Flash\u2019s William Kiel and Nicholas Waters in second (3:47:58) and mixed team Kanga Kanga Kanga, Claudia Higgins and Max Mills, in third (3:48:22)<\/p>\n<p>Details of the event and full results can be found at <strong>www.surfcoasttrailmarathon.com.au<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 600 runners braced the chilly conditions during Saturday\u2019s Surf Coast Trail Marathon.
