{"id":107399,"date":"2023-06-24T04:00:09","date_gmt":"2023-06-23T18:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=107399"},"modified":"2023-06-24T09:12:15","modified_gmt":"2023-06-23T23:12:15","slug":"finch-ready-for-milestone-300th-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/finch-ready-for-milestone-300th-game\/","title":{"rendered":"Finch ready for milestone 300th game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ONE of the Bellarine Football League\u2019s (BFL) most decorated players will mark a historic 300 games for the Modewarre Football Club later today in front of friends, family, and club supporters at Mount Moriac Reserve.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Modewarre great and four-time Les Ash Medal winner Josh Finch says his 300th game will provide a great opportunity to reflect on his journey, which began as an eight-year-old under long-time junior coach Wayne Carroll.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019m excited to share the moment with my teammates, especially my family; they\u2019ve been my rock throughout my football career,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VREMSSZ7glE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEm, my wife, has sacrificed a lot of time for me to keep dedicating my time to football. My Mum, Dad [and] the in-laws will all be in attendance, it kind of feels like all the stars are aligning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finch, just one of two BFL footballers to win the BFL\u2019s best and fairest award four times, said responding to individual success, particularly his first Les Ash Medal in 2010, did not always come naturally.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI was 23 when I won that first league medal, I was captain at the club, and I didn\u2019t know how to handle the pressure, or even the perceived pressure that goes along with it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cParticularly the following year in 2011, it wasn\u2019t by my standards a good year, I was struggling to deal with the additional attention of opposition teams.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe pressure of thinking I was the best player in the competition, I felt like I couldn\u2019t make a mistake, but my teammates and coaches always supported me throughout that adjustment.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_107424\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107424\" style=\"width: 419px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-107424\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/A20I5958-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"419\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/A20I5958-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/A20I5958-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/A20I5958-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/A20I5958-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/A20I5958-2048x1366.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/A20I5958-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 419px) 100vw, 419px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-107424\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Finch, a Moriac local, has only ever known one local football club.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finch \u2013 the first Warriors player to reach 300 senior games \u2013 would win the Les Ash Medal again in 2012, 2013 and 2016, but his greatest achievement would come two years later.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Moriac local and nine-time club best-and-fairest recipient led Modewarre to its first BFL premiership in 24 years in 2018 against Barwon Heads as co-coach alongside John Meesen.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_107425\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107425\" style=\"width: 411px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-107425\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/IMG_9558-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"411\" height=\"274\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/IMG_9558-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/IMG_9558-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/IMG_9558-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/IMG_9558-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/IMG_9558-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/IMG_9558-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 411px) 100vw, 411px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-107425\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Finch standing next to the 2018 BFL Premiership Cup.
