{"id":107707,"date":"2023-06-29T04:00:26","date_gmt":"2023-06-28T18:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=107707"},"modified":"2023-06-28T16:35:57","modified_gmt":"2023-06-28T06:35:57","slug":"dancing-towards-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/dancing-towards-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Dancing towards the future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A SELL-OUT crowd descended on Torquay&#8217;s Hoops Gallery on the weekend for the inaugural Boardshorts Ball.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday evening&#8217;s 1980s themed boardshort-inspired event celebrated a successful first year of Hoop Gallery and kickstarted a twelve-month fundraising campaign to unearth new donors and ongoing supporters for the Surf Coast&#8217;s only not for profit art gallery.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_107710\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107710\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-107710 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/asddsaads-600x380.png?_t=1687927287\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-107710\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Attendees embraced the 1980&#8217;s theme by wearing plenty of splashes of colour.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Attendees danced the night away to the tunes of DJ Kofi, took part in silent auctions, and also cast their eyes over impressive roller-skating displays from the Surfcoast Rollerskaters team.<\/p>\n<p>Feed Me Surf Coast and Torquay&#8217;s Samesyn Restaurant catered the event.<\/p>\n<p>Hoop Gallery exhibition co-ordinator Daniela Rodriguez said money raised from the event will help Hoops Gallery continue to provide high-quality exhibitions that engage new and existing audiences.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_107711\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107711\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-107711 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/AsaASSA-600x380.png?_t=1687927343\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-107711\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Funds raised from the event will help to formalise a strategic plan for the business moving forward.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The night was a great success, there was lots of dancing in boardshorts and &#8217;80s attire,&#8217; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To ensure we continue with our successful momentum, it&#8217;s essential we start big picture planning for the future and engage ongoing support from local partners.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The funds raised will help us to not only put a strategic plan together, but give us the opportunity to continue employing an exhibition co-ordinator, which is fundamental to running the gallery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our intention is to explore and continue to tell the stories that are unique to this area, while celebrating and supporting the creative minds that have helped establish our collective identity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_107712\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107712\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-107712 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/sdffdsdfs-600x380.png?_t=1687934144\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-107712\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The event was attended by more than 70 people.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hoop Gallery is scheduled to close for six-to-nine months in early 2024 for renovations.<\/p>\n<p>For more, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/surfcoastartspace.com.au\/\">surfcoastartspace.com.au\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A SELL-OUT crowd descended on Torquay&#8217;s Hoops Gallery on the weekend for the inaugural Boardshorts Ball.
