{"id":10843,"date":"2018-04-18T07:54:27","date_gmt":"2018-04-17T21:54:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=10843"},"modified":"2018-04-23T11:57:29","modified_gmt":"2018-04-23T01:57:29","slug":"festival-folk-to-hit-lorne-in-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/living\/festival-folk-to-hit-lorne-in-may\/","title":{"rendered":"Festival folk to hit Lorne in May"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>With aspirations to eventually rival the renowned Port Fairy Folk Festival, Lorne May Music Festival (LMMF) arrives in town over the May 4-6 weekend.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Paul Upham from the Lorne Hotel said the festival was born from a desire to draw crowds during the off-season months and after they received a grant from the Surf Coast Shire, pushed ahead with the three-day event.\u201cWe recognised that outside of peak times both from a retail and accommodation perspective, the weekend traffic drops dramatically,\u201d he said.\u201cWe wanted to start an event that takes place in the off-season, one we can grow and build upon.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10858\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10858\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10858 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/04\/Bec-Goring-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10858\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Artist Bec Goring is one of several acts locked in for the inaugural Lorne May Music Festival set to take place over the May 4-6 weekend, guests will receive two free tickets to the festival when they book two nights\u2019 accommodation at the Cumberland, Lorne Hotel or Grand Pacific Hotel across the weekend.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We want to encourage people to head down to Lorne if they\u2019ve been here and liked it or come for the first time and experience a music event at the same time.\u201dMr Upham said the Lorne Hotel in collaboration with the Cumberland Lorne and Grand Pacific Hotel wanted to make the event work for customers whilst being cost competitive.\u201cWe decided that when guests book two nights\u2019 accommodation at any of our three venues they will receive two free tickets to all paid events over the LMMF weekend,\u201d he said.\u201cUltimately we\u2019d love to try and replicate the folk festival at Port Fairy or the Blues Festival in Echuca.
