A PROPOSAL to link Torquay and the Bellarine with a sealed leisure path has been supported by Corangamite MP Sarah Henderson.
\nThe proposed $1.5 million project, also supported by BikeSafe, would see the pedestrian and cycling path to the east of Torquay\u2019s esplanade sealed, creating a safer route from Torquay to the Black Rock Bike Path by allowing cyclists to bypass Horseshoe Bend Road.
\nThe project would also involve sealing Point Impossible Road and the construction of a path between the Point Impossible car park and The Esplanade, separating cyclists and pedestrians from the road and surrounding vegetation.
\n“I am fighting hard for an election commitment for the Point Impossible Leisure Path,\u201d Ms Henderson said.
\n\u201cWith more than 38,000 regular cyclists across our region, investing in better cycling infrastructure is incredibly important.
\n\u201cCyclists riding between Torquay and Barwon Heads can utilise the Black Rock Bike Path, but closer to Torquay the roads can be particularly dangerous for recreational riders.\u201d
\nMs Henderson also highlighted cycling dangers on Horseshoe Bend Road and called on the Surf Coast Shire to allocate part of their $2.2 million Roads to Recovery funding to improve the road.
\n\u201cWith yet another cycling accident on Horseshoe Bend Road, it is vital that the construction of new shoulders on this road is prioritised by Surf Coast Shire,\u201d Ms Henderson said.
\n\u201cWhile there is a new intersection upgrade earmarked for the corner of Horseshoe Bend Road and South Beach Road as part of the shire\u2019s Development Contributions Plan, there is no other money allocated under this plan to upgrade Horseshoe Bend Road.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
