THE Artist Series will return to the Torquay Wine Store next month to showcase the works of local First Nations and multi award-winning creative sand artist Lowell Hunter.<\/p>\n

The August 31 show will see Lowell present drone photographs and videos of his sand art, which he completes using his feet and sometimes a boomerang.<\/p>\n

Lowell carves stories into the sand along the Surf Coast and Bellarine using the same movements he was taught through traditional dance movements his people have practiced for many generations.<\/p>\n

Lowell was a 2022 National NAIDOC Award winner and has had his works featured with New York Fashion Week, NAIDOC Week, the AFL and the Treaty for Victoria.<\/p>\n

The Nyul Nyul Saltwater Man said he couldn’t wait to share with the community his latest and most celebrated projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great to be involved in local community events like this one.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve been working with Mick and Sarah at the Torquay Wine Store for the last year or so, which has involved them showcasing some of my works.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing a local artist within the region, people are becoming more aware of my art and on a deeper level connecting with it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will be another great opportunity to invite locals in to hear from me directly whilst indulging in what the Torquay Wine Store has to offer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Torquay Wine Store owner Mick Dowling said it was incredibly exciting to secure the First Nations artists for next month’s event.<\/p>\n

\u201cLowell was the first person to come in store when we opened and when we looked at what it he did, we thought it was amazing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve featured some of his works in the shop over the last year and a half, and people have come in and made so many positive comments about his work.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a fair bit of excitement and tickets have been selling well so far.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Dowling hoped the art showcase would be a great way of continuing to foster an even greater sense of community on the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe main plus of us doing this is to support the artists and giving them a place to display their works.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnywhere which has a level of sophistication like our place does with nice wines and cocktails naturally is a great fit with art.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor us to do it with local artists is fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lowell will be on hand at the event to answer any questions locals have about his works and his constant inspiration to explore his culture.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $20 and include a drink on arrival plus light finger food.<\/p>\n

The event will begin at 6:30pm.<\/p>\n
