THE Greater Geelong community is invited to celebrate the completion of stage 1 of the Barwon Heads Road upgrade this afternoon (July 30) at a free family fun day event.<\/p>\n

The Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) event at the South Barwon Reserve, will thank the community for its patience during the upgrade’s construction.<\/p>\n

The event will involve family friendly entertainment and activities, a petting zoo, cute animals, face painting and a sausage sizzle.<\/p>\n

With the celebration also falling on National Tree Day, MRPV will be giving out 500 plants as a way of boosting the local environment.<\/p>\n

MRPV’s mini-diggers will be at the event for kids to test their road-building skills.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

MRPV program director Tim Price said he was eager to celebrate the milestone with the community.<\/p>\n

“We’re looking forward to hosting our family fun day at South Barwon Reserve as a thanks to the community for their patience while we completed the Barwon Heads Road upgrade.<\/p>\n

“The event will see plenty of activities and entertainment on offer for kids and adults to enjoy.”<\/p>\n

The community are encouraged to arrive at the event using the new upgraded share use path, between Belmont and Charlemont.<\/p>\n

The state government says it completed stage 1 of the project six months ahead of schedule, and estimates the full Barwon Heads Road upgrade will cater for 44,000 daily journeys by 2031.<\/p>\n
