LORNE’S Point Grey redevelopment can soon begin detailed planning for the project after management authorities signed off on a new cost agreement that secured its funding streams.<\/p>\n

The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) board has agreed to the $12.59 million deal with partner agencies and organisations to fund the long-awaited project.<\/p>\n

The Geelong City Deal<\/a>, which is co-funded by the state and federal governemnts, will provide $10.14 million of funding, GORCAPA will contribute $2 million and the Lorne Aquatic and Angling Club will put in $450,000.<\/p>\n

The new agreement transfers responsibility of Point Grey and other Great Ocean Road City Deal projects \u2013 the Apollo Bay Harbour Redevelopment and improvements to tourism infrastructure at Kennett River \u2013 to the authority.<\/p>\n

GORCAPA had signed a commitment to deliver the project<\/a> earlier this year and has now formalised its role to oversee continuation.<\/p>\n

Authority chief executive officer Jodie Sizer said taking on the projects was a “major step” for GORCAPA.<\/p>\n

“These projects, delivered in collaboration with the Australian government and Victorian Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions, are vital to enhancing the liveability and functionality of these popular destinations for both local communities and the millions of visitors to the region each year.<\/p>\n

“Our team has worked closely with key stakeholders to facilitate a smooth transition of the projects and is recruiting to strengthen our major projects, planning and engagement capacity and capability.”<\/p>\n

GORCAPA will create a revised masterplan for the precinct following a decision from the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal to deny a permit<\/a> for a previously submitted plan.<\/p>\n

Ms Sizer said the authority would continue working with local stakeholders and draw on previous work to progress the project.<\/p>\n

“We thank the community, Traditional Owners, our local councils and project stakeholders for the contributions made so far and look forward to continuing the collaboration.<\/p>\n

“This is a huge opportunity for us to walk hand-in-hand with community and stakeholders to deliver incredible precincts nestled in amongst our incredible coastline.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, GORCAPA is presently reviewing the 2020 Apollo Bay Harbour Development Plan to assess its desired outcomes against existing laws and policies, which it expects to continue until late this year.<\/p>\n

The $3.69 Kennett River project aims to improve toilet facilities and wastewater management at the increasingly popular Great Ocean Road destination, block large coaches from the local road network, and provide parking for small buses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
