{"id":112142,"date":"2023-08-09T10:14:27","date_gmt":"2023-08-09T00:14:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=112142"},"modified":"2023-08-09T11:03:57","modified_gmt":"2023-08-09T01:03:57","slug":"detailed-design-endorsed-for-surf-coast-aquatic-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/detailed-design-endorsed-for-surf-coast-aquatic-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Detailed design endorsed for Surf Coast aquatic centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Surf Coast Shire is drawing close towards calling for tenders to build the $46 million Surf Coast Aquatic and Health Centre.<\/p>\n<p>At their meeting yesterday (Tuesday, August 8), the council resolved to endorse detailed designs for the Torquay North centre, which will include a 25-metre indoor pool, a 20&#215;10-metre indoor program pool, gym, allied health suites and program spaces.<\/p>\n<p>The shire says the design has included focus on accessibility, as well as balancing environmental sustainability and energy efficiency with positive user experience and aesthetics.<\/p>\n<p>Pools will have ramp access, fully accessible change spaces are provided throughout, and the centre will have Changing Places toilet facilities for people with high physical needs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_112144\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-112144\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-112144 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/SCAHC-foyer-render.png?_t=1691541115\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/SCAHC-foyer-render.png 600w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/SCAHC-foyer-render-300x190.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-112144\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The foyer at the centre, to be built in Torquay North next to the Wurdi Baierr Stadium.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Environmentally sustainable and energy-efficient design elements will include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 All-electric power, supported by maximum rooftop solar array<br \/>\n\u2022 Lower pool hall ceiling heights \u2013 up to 7m, compared with 11m or higher at similar aquatic centres<br \/>\n\u2022 Low profile glazing and no skylights<br \/>\n\u2022 Minimal heat transfer between internal spaces, and<br \/>\n\u2022 100 per cent rainwater retention and re-use.<\/p>\n<p>The centre, expected to open early 2026, will neighbour Wurdi Baierr Stadium and the two facilities will share a single entrance on the southern side of the building.<\/p>\n<p>Connections off the Surf Coast Highway will provide entry and exit to the car park, and connections with existing paths will encourage active transport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud and excited to have reached this point and look forward to having tenders received by the end of December and a contract awarded by the end of April 2024,\u201d shire mayor Liz Pattison said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Surf Coast Shire is drawing close towards calling for tenders to build the $46 million Surf Coast Aquatic and Health Centre.
