The Century has been an annual must-do ultra-trail running event on the Surf Coast Shire since its inception in 2012.<\/p>\n
Competitors can compete as individual runners in either the 100km or 50km courses, or as part of a relay team of two, three, or four runners covering the 100km course with each member running about 25km.<\/p>\n
63-year-old Torquay resident Sandra Heriot will be taking on the 100km solo race for a third-straight year.<\/p>\n
Ms Heriot said she loves the race she moved to the Surf Coast because of it.<\/p>\n
“When I arrived on the Surf Coast, I remember thinking it was so beautiful; you could just breathe and relax,” Ms Heriot said.<\/p>\n
“And then when I ran the 100km course it was just magnificent \u2013 the red cliffs, the beautiful seas, the trees in the Ironbark basin, and the friendly people.<\/p>\n
“I thought ‘OMG, I really think I could live here’!”<\/p>\n
Other runners such as Anglesea resident Lucy Jones will be part of a relay team of four, running in honour of her late mother Janet Jones, who completed three 100km solo races.<\/p>\n
Rapid Ascent organisers say the Surf Coast Century is not only about challenging the course, but also the incredible experience shared among participants.<\/p>\n
“The Surf Coast Century is a celebration of perseverance, camaraderie, and the stunning natural beauty of the area,” event director Sam Maffett said.<\/p>\n
“It’s more than just a race; it’s an opportunity for individuals and relay teams to challenge themselves and share an unforgettable journey together.”<\/p>\n
A final training leg covering Leg 4 of the course spanning 24km from Moggs Creek to the finish line in Anglesea Green is scheduled for Sunday, August 20.<\/p>\n
