{"id":113785,"date":"2023-08-23T20:38:31","date_gmt":"2023-08-23T10:38:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/leading-ammo-claims-division-one-best-and-fairest\/"},"modified":"2023-08-23T20:38:31","modified_gmt":"2023-08-23T10:38:31","slug":"leading-ammo-claims-division-one-best-and-fairest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/leading-ammo-claims-division-one-best-and-fairest\/","title":{"rendered":"Leading Ammo claims Division One best and fairest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A STALWART of the Geelong Amateur women\u2019s football program has taken home the region\u2019s top individual female football accolade at tonight\u2019s (August 23) AFL Barwon Female Football Presentation Night.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ammos ruck and skipper Danielle Sgarbi went one spot better than her runner up finish in 2022 to claim Division One\u2019s top gong.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sgarbi claimed the league best and fairest award ahead of Lara forward Taiya Morrow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The premiership captain of the \u201cWammos\u201d is the second Geelong Amateur ruck in three completed seasons to win the Division One medal, after former teammate Stephanie Abfalter received the same nod in 2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sgarbi, who chatted with the Geelong Times earlier this week, said the 2023 campaign has been a tale of two halves, with her side gathering an abundance of momentum in the latter half of the season ahead of the side\u2019s Grand Final.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis season has had a few challenges thrown our way through injury and availability through players being called up to the VFL, which is really exciting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt has depleted our list a bit throughout the season, I think we\u2019ve had 37 players play at least one game in the side in the Division One team.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBut we\u2019ve gathered some momentum and we\u2019ve found some rhythm in the back half of the season, so we\u2019re excited to be in another Grand Final.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_81649\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81649\" style=\"width: 784px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-81649 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/08\/IMG_3095-scaled.jpg?_t=1692782410\" alt=\"\" width=\"784\" height=\"523\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-81649\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Grovedale&#8217;s Zoe Cowan and Geelong Amateur&#8217;s Danielle Sgarbi with the Division 1 Premiership Cup.
