{"id":115131,"date":"2023-09-02T18:51:43","date_gmt":"2023-09-02T08:51:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/hawks-upset-win-over-minor-premiers-locks-in-spot-in-gdfl-decider\/"},"modified":"2023-09-02T18:51:43","modified_gmt":"2023-09-02T08:51:43","slug":"hawks-upset-win-over-minor-premiers-locks-in-spot-in-gdfl-decider","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/hawks-upset-win-over-minor-premiers-locks-in-spot-in-gdfl-decider\/","title":{"rendered":"Hawks&#8217; upset win over minor premiers locks in spot in GDFL decider"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">INVERLEIGH Football Club\u2019s dream second half to 2023 has taken a massive step forward with a 9.10.63 to 11.7.73 win over minor premiers Thomson this afternoon (Saturday, September 2) at St Albans Reserve.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Hawks\u2019 Second Semi-Final win over the Tigers puts them into this season\u2019s Geelong &amp; District Football League (GDFL) Grand Final on September 16, while the Tigers will need to win next week\u2019s Preliminary Final to keep its season alive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Despite building a 5.0.30 to 3.1.19 lead over the Hawks in the first term, Thomson flatlined in the second quarter, failing to register a single point.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Inverleigh remained steady in front of the big sticks, kicking four goals in the second term and leading 30-46 at half-time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82335\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82335\" style=\"width: 641px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-82335 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/09\/My-Room-94-scaled.jpg?_t=1693644411\" alt=\"\" width=\"641\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82335\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Thomson&#8217;s Jordan Camm kicks forward.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Thomson took a page out of Inverleigh\u2019s book and kept the Hawks scoreless in the third to lead by one point at three-quarter time, 47-46.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Hawks coach Chris Moore and his side came out of the final break with a four-goal blitz in the fourth, keeping Thomson goalless again and running away with the match by 22 points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Inverleigh\u2019s Paddy Bourke (two goals), Adam Donohue (two goals), Luke Wilson (two goals), Mason Dickson, James Hussey, vice-captain Jarrod Love, Nathan Mayes, and Matt Tyquin all registered goals in today\u2019s win.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Wilson, Love, Finley O\u2019Keefe, Bradley Surkitt, Ryan Robertson, and Mitch Elford were named best-on-ground for the Hawks, while Mick Barnett, Charley Donohue, Stephen Salajan, Jacques, Mitch Sheedy, and Travis McGuire were named the same for Thomson.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82336\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82336\" style=\"width: 623px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-82336 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/09\/My-Room-116-scaled.jpg?_t=1693644547\" alt=\"\" width=\"623\" height=\"461\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82336\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">L-R: Thomson&#8217;s Brent Jacques and Inverleigh&#8217;s Michael Grozdanovski contest the mark.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Thomson\u2019s Brent Jacques led all goal-scorers with four majors, while Andrew Mead-Harding added three to the ledger.
