THERAPEUTIC surfing charity Ocean Mind is looking for more volunteers to jump on board as heroes for their exciting spring\/summer season.<\/p>\n

Back from winter hibernation, the not-for-profit is hoping to add an additional 100 volunteers from the community.<\/p>\n

As a trained mentor, volunteers will help participants catch waves and boost their confidence in the ocean by sharing the stoked of surfing.<\/p>\n

Mentoring sessions are mostly on weekends and weekdays, lasting two hours each, with extra training opportunities available for volunteers to go on and become an accredited lifeguard or surf coach.<\/p>\n

Ocean Mind founder Rachael Parker said the journey of volunteering is a “very rewarding experience.”<\/p>\n

“Sharing one’s passions with others and witnessing the joy of someone catching their first wave is truly special.<\/p>\n

“Beyond the emotional rewards, our volunteers acquire valuable life skills that enhance their employability.<\/p>\n

“Many mentors forge lasting friendships with like-minded individuals and become an integral part of our close-knit community.”<\/p>\n

Ms Parker said Ocean Mind believe expanding their pool of trained mentors, can further amplify the positive impacts of their programs.<\/p>\n

“Over the upcoming years, we are committed to doubling the surf therapy hours we provide to the community.<\/p>\n

“Our focus is not only on the existing local community but also on extending our services to new areas.<\/p>\n

“This year, we are proud to include Warrnambool and other communities in our efforts to reach more individuals and make a difference through surf therapy.”<\/p>\n

Upcoming training days will be held on September 9, October 7 and November 4.<\/p>\n

The sessions will be split between both the classroom and the ocean.<\/p>\n
