{"id":116388,"date":"2023-09-09T20:23:40","date_gmt":"2023-09-09T10:23:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/grubbers-battle-on-without-star-defender-to-claim-a-grade-flag\/"},"modified":"2023-09-09T23:12:38","modified_gmt":"2023-09-09T13:12:38","slug":"grubbers-battle-on-without-star-defender-to-claim-a-grade-flag","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/grubbers-battle-on-without-star-defender-to-claim-a-grade-flag\/","title":{"rendered":"Grubbers battle on without star defender to claim A Grade flag"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">A 19-YEAR drought has ended, with Ocean Grove Netball Club winning the Bellarine Netball League A Grade premiership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Grubbers and Geelong Amateur took centre stage at Grinter Reserve a year after the two clubs last met in the A Grade Grand Final, with both sides jostling for the premiership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Nothing separated the two sides in the first quarter with the contest deadlocked at 14 apiece at quarter time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Ocean Grove took the lead in the second quarter to lead 25-29 over the minor premiers at half-time, a crucial lead that would play a pivotal role in helping the Grubbers over the line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Leading 36-40 at the final break, Ocean Grove staved off any comeback attempts late-on winning the fourth term 9-13 to ultimately seal the club\u2019s first premiership win one year short of two decades.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75944\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75944\" style=\"width: 632px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-75944 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/09\/2H3A5076-1-scaled.jpg?_t=1694254864\" alt=\"\" width=\"632\" height=\"457\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-75944\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Grubbers captain Emily Moroney with coach Candice Parker.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Ocean Grove earned the eight-goal win the hard way, with star defender Kelsey Ollis going down with a knee injury in the contest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Ocean Grove captain Emily Moroney said it was a testament to the group, adjusting to Ollis\u2019 injury and coming out with the win.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201cIt was pretty heartbreaking to see Kelsey go down, but that\u2019s where we showed our strength and our determination,\u201d Moroney said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201cOnce she went down, we stuck together as a team and did it for the \u2018family\u2019, we pulled together and kept playing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201cWe have this saying of \u2018family\u2019, we are a family and we\u2019re all so close.
