THE next in a series of online discussions about improving the supply of affordable housing in Lorne will be held today (Wednesday, September 13).<\/p>\n

The Lorne Housing Solutions series is being presented by Friends of Lorne on behalf of the Committee for Lorne, with support from the Surf Coast Shire.<\/p>\n

The project builds on the committee\u2019s Accommodating Lorne\u2019s Future report released earlier this year, which is the culmination of a 10-year study into the town\u2019s housing problems and outlines a range of potential answers.<\/p>\n

The collective efforts aim to find a way for key workers such as police, hospitality staff, childcare educators and teachers, and healthcare professionals to live in town and maintain the viability of key community services.<\/p>\n

Affordable housing is a long-running issue in Lorne, where property prices have skyrocketed due to the town’s popularity but further residential growth is limited by Lorne being landlocked by the Otways on one side and the .<\/p>\n

Southern Moreton Bay Islands Community Land Trust director Andrew Paul will be one of the speakers at today’s session, and will talk about how his Queensland community is also grapping with the process of providing affordable housing in a beauty spot next to a national park, and responding to issues such as size, timelines, costs, raising funds and eligibility.<\/p>\n

The Lorne Housing Solutions online community meeting will be held online today from 4-5pm.<\/p>\n
