TORQUAY’S market season is back with hundreds of stallholders and thousands of market-goers expected to converge on Elephant Walk this Sunday, September 17.<\/p>\n
The Torquay Cowrie Market, run by Surf Coast Arts Inc., will hold the first of its eight markets over the next eight months this weekend, with organisers excited to enter the market’s 26th year on the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Arts Inc.’s Torquay Cowrie Market organising committee made up of Ellie Wilson, Tania Bartlett and Martine Oderio has led the charge in preparing for the market’s return with more than 140 sites booked for Sunday’s event.<\/p>\n
It is the committee’s first year organising the market, after taking over from Kyla Beale and Mark Trinham \u2013 the market’s original committee members.<\/p>\n
“We’re very excited to be back on the third Sunday of every month moving forward and everything is coming together really well,” Ms Wilson said.<\/p>\n
“We have such a different variety of offerings available at the market, new produce, people selling different marinades and sauces, and lots of new stallholders to promote local products.<\/p>\n
“We have stallholders that have remained committed to the market for many years now, they make up the core of our stalls, but we also have a number of new and exciting stalls coming aboard this season.”<\/p>\n
The market will feature a range of art, craft, food, drink, clothing products, and a large variety of food trucks.<\/p>\n
Local musicians will also provide live entertainment throughout the day on two separate stages.<\/p>\n
“It’s a bustling and colourful atmosphere to be a part of,” Surf Coast Arts Inc. president Julie Dyer said.<\/p>\n
“There’s plenty of smells, you’ll hear countless people greeting one another, catching up with one another, it’s terrific to be a part of.”<\/p>\n
