{"id":117385,"date":"2023-09-21T08:57:45","date_gmt":"2023-09-20T22:57:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=117385"},"modified":"2023-09-21T08:57:45","modified_gmt":"2023-09-20T22:57:45","slug":"fitting-farewell-for-30-year-road-grader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/fitting-farewell-for-30-year-road-grader\/","title":{"rendered":"Fitting farewell for 30-year road grader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HEAVY machinery led a funeral procession through Bellbrae for popular Surf Coast Shire road grader Murray Kurzman.<\/p>\n<p>A motorcade headed by a tractor and Mr Kurzman&#8217;s beloved John Deere motor grader travelled from Bellbrae Hall to Bellbrae Cemetery last Thursday (September 14), following a funeral service at Geelong Memorial Park in Mount Duneed.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kurzman worked for 31 years as a grader driver for the council, with shire employees among those leading tributes for the workmate they called &#8220;Murray in a hurry&#8221;.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_117386\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-117386\" style=\"width: 597px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-117386 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/09\/received_80349791484_92442.jpeg?_t=1695250534\" alt=\"\" width=\"597\" height=\"448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/09\/received_80349791484_92442.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/09\/received_80349791484_92442-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/09\/received_80349791484_92442-768x576.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-117386\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Ferguson trailer moved Mr Kurzman to Bellbrae Cemetery as part of the service.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Family members said Mr Kurzman would be remembered as a kind, friendly and caring man who was always up for a chat with people he came across.<\/p>\n<p>Away from work, he was also a regular at the former Torquay Speedway at Spring Creek Reserve, and was a division two state champion in his Ford Zephyr called Southern Roarer.<\/p>\n<p>He also ran a hobby farm at his Moriac property with shorthorn cattle, including his beloved bull Boris, and restored Ferguson tractors.<\/p>\n<p>Months before his passing, Mr Kurzman had joked one of the tractors would be the ideal vehicle to tow him up Bellbrae Cemetery hill &#8211; with his children fulfilling that request by placing him in a Ferguson trailer behind the tractor for last week&#8217;s procession.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-117390 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/09\/IMG_9160_94706.jpg?_t=1695250534\" alt=\"\" width=\"594\" height=\"446\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/09\/IMG_9160_94706.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/09\/IMG_9160_94706-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/09\/IMG_9160_94706-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 594px) 100vw, 594px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>His family said they were grateful for the support that Mr Kurzman&#8217;s friends, family and acquaintances had offered following his death and to help deliver the service.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was just beautiful and went exactly how Dad would have wanted,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kurzman died peacefully and surrounded by family on September 4, aged 77.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his wife Lila, sisters Lauris and Cheryl, and children Sheree and Grant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HEAVY machinery led a funeral procession through Bellbrae for popular Surf Coast Shire road grader Murray Kurzman.
